Solar Eclipse

July 22, 2009 Solar Eclipse-Longest solar eclipse in 21st century.

I didn't notice that today, July 22,2009 is the actual date of appearance of solar eclipse, which is visible at northern Maldives, northern Pakistan, northern India, eastern Nepal, northern Bangladesh, Bhutan, the northern tip of Myanmar, central China and the Pacific Ocean, including the Ryukyu Islands, Marshall Islands and Kiribati.

Upon arrival on my working place, one of my colleague tell me that the eclipse is still happening because it reflects on our floor (Our office is located at the penthouse of that building).I look at it and yes, i saw that the sun is partially covered, because the moon passes between the sun and the earth.

Occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth

Based on what i have read, this solar eclipse which occurred today (July 22,2009) is the longest total eclipse of the 21st century lasting at most 6 minutes and 39 seconds. The eclipse is part of saros series 136, like the record-setting solar eclipse of July 11, 1991. The next event from this series will be on August 2, 2027.
